Emilia Romagna

Italy’s Emilia-Romagna is one of the great culinary regions in the world, famous for its pork butchers, prosciutto di Parma, salami and mortadella, varied and delicious pastas, Parmesan cheese and balsamic vinegar.

The region also has the finest of engineering traditions, excelling in motorcycles and autos, including the world-famous, red sports cars of Maranello, as well as industrial equipment such as farm machinery and electrical gear.

Land of Abundance

0004_02.jpg Emilia-Romagna stretches from the east coast of Italy on the Adriatic all the way to the Mediterranean. Running the length of the region are the southern part of the Po Valley and the Romagnola plain, flanked by the Apennine Mountains, which dominate the south. Summers are very warm and winters cold, wet, and foggy on the plain, though milder along the Adriatic.

With some of the richest soil in Italy, the plain is intensively cultivated with fields and orchards. Wheat, sugar beets, rice, grapes, plums, cherries, onions, tomatoes and flax are among the major crops. The region is also Italy’s most important source of beef and pork.
